Duskbirds #34, "Sleep Tossing"

MON JAN 13th, 2025

I’m one of those people who has always needed to stretch into all sorts of sprawling positions to become comfortable enough to fall asleep. My partner is the opposite – he can slip into bed, lay on his back, unmoving, and fall asleep that way – which is such a foreign concept to me, haha. I would never be able to fall asleep if I couldn’t move!

I finished this at the start of this week (hence the date above), but just had a chance to post it today.

“Food Poisoning” | #33 – January 6, 2025

MON JAN 6th, 2025

I believe this was partially based on when I had a small bout of food poisoning last September – but mainly based on how it reminded me of the two or three times in my life when I had severe food poisoning. I remember the first time I had it, it was remarkable how it really felt like I was dying – even when I obviously knew I was not. But knowing you are not about to die doesn’t make that intense pain any less excruciating.

I changed my desk setup recently and have been looking for ways to practice the new setup – this page was originally drawn back in early October, and was 95% completed, but I hadn’t gone back and added that 5% polish step. Testing the desk setup was a good excuse to do so, and I was glad to have the excuse to finish this page – as I had honestly forgotten I’d drawn it, but I remember I did like it back when I drew most of it in October.

One of my aims this year is to finish more projects, instead of having the mountain of in-progress work continue to climb all around me – so here’s to hoping this is a harbinger for more finished pages this year. :)
