“Food Poisoning” | #33 – January 6, 2025

MON JAN 6th, 2025

I believe this was partially based on when I had a small bout of food poisoning last September – but mainly based on how it reminded me of the two or three times in my life when I had severe food poisoning. I remember the first time I had it, it was remarkable how it really felt like I was dying – even when I obviously knew I was not. But knowing you are not about to die doesn’t make that intense pain any less excruciating.

I changed my desk setup recently and have been looking for ways to practice the new setup – this page was originally drawn back in early October, and was 95% completed, but I hadn’t gone back and added that 5% polish step. Testing the desk setup was a good excuse to do so, and I was glad to have the excuse to finish this page – as I had honestly forgotten I’d drawn it, but I remember I did like it back when I drew most of it in October.

One of my aims this year is to finish more projects, instead of having the mountain of in-progress work continue to climb all around me – so here’s to hoping this is a harbinger for more finished pages this year. :)

“Staring Into Space” | #32 – January 3, 2025

Fri JAN 3rd, 2025

In retrospect, maybe I should have titled this page “Mindfulness” haha.

Happy New Year! Though I started a bunch of new projects since the last Duskbirds page that have been occupying my time, I have many idle ideas for this project written down that I’d like to see as pages sometime. This is one of them, which I managed to finish up shortly after the new year.

I really liked the style of the previously finished page (Duskbirds #31, “Stardust”). I’m going to aim to have pages going forward have that style/aesthetic. This page was started a while after that one, and was partly me trying to remember the workflow I used. I think I’ve mostly figured out a good workflow for it now, though this one still looks a little less consistent that I’d like – but that should improve with practice!

I should probably put all the various WIP’s of the Duskbirds pages I have drafted and not yet finished on Patreon or Ko-fi – I haven’t managed to do that in a while simply because of the time involved, and other things have been taking priority. If there’s demand for it I’ll consider being more consistent with those, otherwise I will probably have to prioritize other tasks, at least for now!
